Bieler+Lang ExDetector HC 150 / HC 150 K — flammable gas detector, zone 2

A pellistor detector for flammable gases in zone 2, with a measuring function calibrated and certified for six named gases — methane, ethane, propane, hydrogen, n-pentane and n-hexane. The HC 150 K version measures inside a duct, up to 80 °C.

A calibrated measuring function for six gases

Certificate BAM 16 ATEX 0801 X confirms the measuring function by name for methane, ethane, propane, hydrogen, n-pentane and n-hexane in air. At handover that is a stronger argument than a general "detects flammable gases": a notified body has verified the accuracy for the specific gas present on your site.

The detector also meets the criteria for functional safety SIL 1 and carries the marking II 3 G Ex ec db eb IIC T4 Gc.

HC 150 or HC 100

The difference is the zone. The HC 100 is approved for zone 1 — places where an explosive atmosphere is present in normal operation. The HC 150 is intended for zone 2, where the mixture may appear only rarely and briefly: gas boiler rooms, halls with gas-fired equipment, hydrogen compressor rooms, sewage works.

If the hazardous area classification for the site has not been done yet, or is in doubt, talk to us before the model is chosen. Specifying a detector for the wrong zone is a cost that comes back at handover.

The HC 150 K duct version

The HC 150 K has its sensor head separate from the transmitter — it is fitted inside a duct or pipe where the temperature reaches 80 °C. The electronics stay outside, where they can be serviced.

Calibration by one person

Adjustment happens at the detector itself, without a second person at the controller. With an installation spread across a hall or mounted under the ceiling, that is a real difference in inspection time.
