Bieler+Lang ExDetector HC 200 — flammable gas detector with stand-alone mode

A detector for flammable gases and vapours over 0–100 % LEL, for zone 2. Its greatest strength: it works on its own — it can trigger protective measures without a controller, and where needed it wires into a system conventionally.

Stand-alone mode — one detector instead of a system

The HC 200 is stand-alone capable: it needs no superordinate unit to act. It detects the exceeded level itself and starts what has to happen — fan, valve, horn.

That has a very practical effect on cost. With a single measuring point — one boiler room, one compressor room, one battery room — there is no controller to buy, no cabling to run to it and no space to find for it in the board. The detector is the whole system.

When more points are added, the same detector connects conventionally to a GMC 8022 or GMC 8034 over 4–20 mA. Nothing has to be replaced.

Over fifty gases with one sensor

A pellistor measures heat of combustion rather than a specific molecule — which is why the manufacturer's confirmed gas list is so long. It includes hydrocarbons (methane, propane, butane, pentane, hexane, heptane, octane, nonane), solvents (acetone, ethanol, isopropanol, MEK, THF, ethyl and butyl acetate, toluene, xylene, styrene), fuels (petrol, diesel, kerosene, naphtha, nitro thinner) as well as hydrogen and ammonia.

If the gas you need is not on the list, the manufacturer will test it on request. Send us the name or the CAS number and we will check.

Where it earns its keep

Paint shops and printing works (solvents), hazardous goods stores, filling stations, hydrogen installations, biogas plants and sewage works, gas boiler rooms, laboratories.

Watch out for catalyst poisons: in an atmosphere containing silicones, hydrogen sulphide or lead compounds a pellistor loses sensitivity. In that environment the right choice is the ExDetector SC 220.

Calibration and accessories

Adjustment is done by one person with the Calibrationbox-i unit. The detector takes the mounting bracket shared with the HC 100, SC 220 and GasDetector IR 220, and the FBA 2018 remote gassing adapter — which lets test gas be applied from floor level to a sensor mounted high up.
